- Inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1995
- Birth: April 29, 1932 - Toronto, Ontario
There are very few people who have influenced the history and growth of the Canadian music industry as much as Stan Klees has. As the Director of Special Projects for RPM Magazine, a periodical dedicated to keeping and reporting the pulse of Canadian music since 1964, Klees played a significant role in creating the MAPL logo and the system that indicated Canadian content on recordings.
As a record producer for Astral Records from 1960-63, Klees understood better than anyone the need to create a Canadian star system. His involvement in RPM Magazine, allowed him to create both the Juno Awards and the Big Country Awards, which later became the CCMA Awards.
